Cat Illness

Poetry vid in memory of Cisco, whom I lost last week due to a sudden illness.

He was a very loving cat, always at my feet, next to me or touching or laying on me in some manner.

Cisco was 1 in a litter of 5 male kittens born in September 1999 to a Siamese mother who abandoned them a day after birth. I adopted the litter 2 days later and bottle-fed them every 3-4 hours until they were able to be weaned. He was like my baby and the 4th of the 5 I’ve lost.

I was there with him at the end on the way to the vet.

I miss him.

For those of you who feel you must make rude or ugly comments about the loss of a beloved pet, don’t bother. You’ll only prove what an uncompassionate (and worse) person you are and your comments will be deleted.

A Tribute to our Cat ‘Jessie’ who sadly had to be put to sleep on The 22nd August 2008…She was only 5 years old.

She had a tumour on her brain, that caused her to have seizures she was confused and lost she fought so hard to over come this but her illness was too strong to keep her alive, we had to make the decision to have her put to sleep…she was the best cat in the world, loving and friendly, she had so much love to give and we ourselves had so much love to give her and still do even though she’s gone.

We love and miss you so much Jessie, our hearts are with you always!

[Nick and I are hanging out in my apartment. He goes to the bathroom, and someone knocks on my door. I answer it to find my mother. It takes all of my power to not slam the door in her face.]
CAT: What are you doing here?
JOY: I heard that you’re having a baby!
CAT: So?
JOY: So, I wanted to say that I’m here for you if you need anything.
CAT: What? NOW you want to help me?
JOY: I’ve been nothing but nice and supportive to you!
CAT: Oh, really? So…when you dumped me in the ing rain two years ago, it was out of LOVE? When you called me a whore for getting drunk at a Christmas party, it was from the HEART? And you think NOW, you can come to MY God-damn apartment and offer your aid? How the do you think you can do this????
JOY: I am your mother! Don’t talk to me like that!
CAT: , do you hear yourself? You are not a MOTHER to me! You only gave birth to me, so get the out of MY ING LIFE! [Nick comes out of the bathroom and stands next to me.] Get out! [She looks hurt, but do you think I care? When she doesn't leave, I do. Nick follows close behind. He takes my hand.]
NICK: What is she doing here?
CAT: Trying to take over my life…SHIT! SHE’S IN MY APARTMENT! [I turn back, but Nick holds me back.]
NICK: You’ll just cause a scene.
CAT: When there’s no one around? [I drag him towards the door.] God, you were so much lighter when we were kids. Let go!
NICK: No, Kitty. [Hey, stop laughing at my lovey-dovey nickname.] I’m not gonna let you hurt anyone else. I can’t believe that one girl at Pinkberry didn’t sue you.
CAT: It’s different this time. It’s my OF A MOTHER!!!! [My neighbor walks out. I straighten up and give a little wave.] oooo…How’s your week going? [He just looks at me and goes back inside. Nick accidentally lets go of my hand to scratch his nose. I look at him, and then at his arm. I bolt to my apartment. My mom is still standing in the same spot. She stares at me. Nick comes up, panting.] Why did you come back?
JOY: Your father’s sick.
CAT: Why do you think I give a ? It’s not like he was a ing role model in my life.
JOY: It’s a terminal illness, Catherine.
CAT: I’ll send you a nice fruit basket when he finally kicks the bucket.
JOY: Why are you acting like such a ?
CAT: I get it from you. [She opens her mouth and closes it again. She looks at Nick.]
JOY: This is YOUR fault!
NICK: It’s my fault that William is dying?
JOY: It’s your fault that my daughter got this stupid career and a ed-up idea that sh’es better than everyone else! If she’d never met you, she would be happily in college!
CAT: HAPPILY? I am happy here! I’m with someone who actually cares about me! He gives me second chances when I don’t think I deserve one! For once in my life, I feel like I’m worth something, because even when I’m at my lowest point, he’ll call me beautiful and perfect! Do you know why? Because he LOVES me! You don’t know what it’s like to be at the bottom, and then find this great guy who will do ANYTHING for you! Your entire life was spent with GOLD and SILVER and DIAMONDS! You wouldn’t know ANYTHING about the I’m going through.
JOY: I’m TRYING to–
CAT: UGH! NO YOU AREN’T! You WISH you were, BUT YOU AREN’T! Mom, we never got along! Just accept it and leave! You did this same thing to Paul and Daniel! You were ECSTATIC when they left!
JOY: If you would stop being such a , I could explain myself! [I raise my hand to slap her, but Nick pulls me back.] Fine! You don’t want my help? I won’t offer it anymore! [She leaves. I slam the door behind her and sink to the floor crying.]
